Ethics & Gray Areas

As the massage industry continues to grow and change, the actions of the massage therapist must continue to evolve, both in and out of the room. Therapists are working in hospitals, orthopedic, pain management, hospice and oncology and many other medically based settings. Nationally, many states are pushing for stricter licensing laws. For many therapists, our biggest challenge is being confident in our verbiage and actions to ensure that we have set the expectation of professionalism. This course discusses topics that may be tough to tackle. We will discuss client’s perceptions of draping and linens, boundaries, disrobing and setting parameters of behavior even before the service commences. We will also spend a great deal of time talking about the connection between sexuality and touch. How does the therapist react? Is an erection a normal response, and if so, how does the therapist respond to specific scenarios? Providing a safe environment for the attendees to practice verbiage empowers them. Many therapists are not sure how to respond, how to know if they need to end the session or what warning signs to watch for. Unfortunately, we do work in an industry where this conversation occurs.

Many clients don't return becuase they were uncomfortable on the table, give them options! And the most important reason to do Side-Lying massage? YOU!
